Windshield Replaced at Home, Without You Touching the Paperwork

Most people expect a claim to mean hold music and forms. For a Florida windshield claim it is usually one phone call, and the glass company does the talking.

The short answer

Call the glass company first, not the insurer. A shop that files claims will bring your insurance company onto the line with you, confirm your comprehensive coverage, and open the claim on that same call. It usually takes about fifteen minutes, and you fill in nothing. Then the technician comes to your home or work and fits the glass.

Why you are not filling in forms

A windshield claim is one of the simplest claims there is. The insurer needs to confirm the policy, confirm comprehensive coverage is on it, and authorise the work. None of that requires you to fill in a document, and all of it can be done by voice with you on the line to give consent.

What people picture, the portal logins and the uploaded photos and the days of waiting, is what happens when you try to run the claim yourself. Handing it to the glass company removes that entirely.

What the call actually sounds like

You give the year, make and model, the damage, and where the car will be. We call your insurer with you on the line. They verify the policy, we give them the glass and labour detail in the format they expect, and they issue authorisation.

You are on the call because the insurer needs to hear you authorise it. You are not on the call to explain anything technical. That part is ours.

What it costs you

With comprehensive coverage on a Florida policy, nothing. Florida Statute 627.7288 states that the deductible on a comprehensive policy does not apply to windshield damage, so the replacement is covered in full. That is state law rather than an offer, and filing a windshield claim does not carry a surcharge.

Two limits worth knowing. Liability-only policies are not covered by the statute. And while side windows and rear glass are covered by comprehensive, your normal deductible does apply to those.

Then the car never leaves your driveway

Once the claim is authorised we book around your availability and come to the car. Home, work, anywhere it is parked. The glass work is usually under an hour, then the adhesive needs to reach safe drive-away strength before you move the vehicle, typically about another hour.

If your vehicle has a forward-facing camera behind the windshield it will need recalibration as well, which adds roughly 60 to 90 minutes. We will tell you which category your vehicle falls into before the appointment, not after.

What to have ready

Very little, and none of it is paperwork.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to call my insurance company myself?

No. Call us on 407-388-4718 and we bring your insurer onto the line with you, confirm the coverage and open the claim on that call. It usually takes about fifteen minutes. You are on the call only to authorise it, and you fill in no forms.

Will filing a windshield claim raise my rates?

Filing a windshield claim does not carry a surcharge in Florida. Comprehensive glass claims are treated differently from at-fault accident claims. If you have specific concerns about your own policy, we can raise the question with your insurer while we have them on the line.

What if I do not have comprehensive coverage?

Then Statute 627.7288 does not apply and the work is paid out of pocket. Call with your year, make and model and we will quote it directly. We can also check what your policy actually includes with you on the call if you are not certain.
